STATE PBIS SUMMARY

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. More than 1,000 Georgia schools and 27,000 nationwide have been trained in PBIS.  Implementation of PBIS is saving countless instructional hours otherwise lost to discipline. The premise of PBIS is that continual teaching, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. PBIS schools apply a multi-tiered approach to prevention, using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted and individualized interventions and supports to improve school climate for all students. EMS PBIS SUMMARY

At Edwards Middle School, “WE JUST CAN’T HIDE OUR PATRIOT P.R.I.D.E!”

With this being our motto, we model, teach, and encourage our students to show actions of being: Prepared, Respectful, Involved, Driven, and Exceptional.

Students are taught behavior expectations for all areas in the school.  These expectations help to foster a climate conducive for teaching and learning where all can thrive.

We offer a variety of activities and incentives for students and staff to participate in as acknowledgment for positive behavior exuded.

PBIS Acknowledgement System at EMS:

Students are eligible to attend a monthly PBIS celebration for meeting specific criteria during designated dates each month.  Students have a chance to earn points daily through PBIS Rewards for showing positive behaviors.  With an accumulation of points, students can redeem points for incentives and events that are offered.
